A first for Fiji

IT will be a first for Fiji and for the South Pacific as well.

The Peppers brand will be in Fiji through the Peppers Naisoso Island Resort and will be the first Peppers property outside of Australia and New Zealand.

Part of the Naisoso Island development, which is expected to inject some $400million into the local economy, the resort details were presented to the elite group of Suva on Thursday night.

Owner and developer Bob Lowres said the resort would deliver personalised services and impressive facilities Peppers is renowned for.

The online portal for the resort described it as "the ultimate destination for a romantic getaway, family holiday or special celebration."

The 178 room resort will also consist of luxury one, two and three-bedroom apartments.

Its recreation facilities include two lagoon swimming pools, tennis courts, day spa, water sports activities, gymnasium and a private beach.

"Encapsulating the essence of a tropical paradise, Fiji is where white sandy beaches, swaying coconut trees, pristine oceans and waterways offer a multitude of leisure pursuits that will appeal to the most discerning traveller," the resort's website said.

All these for a cool $579,600 for the one-bedroom apartment and the rate goes higher for the two and three bedroom units.

Tourism minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum was supportive of the project as it was a direct investment into the economy.

When the Naisoso development is completed by 2017, it would have contributed about $65m in direct taxes to the Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority.

At least 20 per cent of the sales in the Naisoso development have been to locals.

If you are one with a deep pocket, this could be an investment venture for you, which in turn would reduce the excess liquidity currently hovering around $0.5billion.
