Public can view Park Hyatt Resort plans
Plans for the proposed Park Hyatt Resort in St Georges are now available for viewing at the Department of Planning offices.
The Department officially received the plans on Monday, which show the layout of the estimated $300 million resort project intended for construction on the former Club Med site.
According to the application, the site will feature 122 residential units, including 71 condos, 39 villas and 12 detached residences in addition to a 100-room hotel spread over eight buildings.
The plans also show a spa, to be built on the Fort Albert site, a new golf clubhouse and a fitness centre.
Also included in the application is a utilities site with sewage and reverse osmosis facilities, to be built in an area off Old Military Road, a beach club with a restaurant, and off-site staff accommodations with 162 beds.
Along with the new hotel buildings, the St Georges Golf Course will also get a makeover thanks to a redesign by champion golfer Nick Faldo.
Developer Addax Holdings Ltd also marked an area south of the main site as for the development of future fractional units.
A $90 million, 262-year lease on the east end property was signed in 2008 following the controlled demolition of the Club Med hotel, which was closed 20 years before.
While many in the east end are hopeful that the resort will help boost St Georges economy, which has suffered from a reduction in visiting cruise ships, those who live in the Old Military Road area have expressed concern that the sewage treatment facility will lead to odour and noise.
Any objections to the application are due at the Department of Planning by July 15.
