Bryan lays out a case for same-sex relationships in the Bible in a book entitled The Purple Triangle that he sees Jesus as human and that it's important for the public to have a broader interpretation of him. "That leads to the next step that we’re all sons and daughters of God, without exception," he explains.
Bryan is not alone in his thinking. Scholars as far back as the 16th Century have suggested that Jesus and John's relationship was more than brotherly love. King James I of England, from which the Authorised King James version of the Bible comes, justified his own relationship with the Duke of Buckingham when he said, "I wish to speak in my own behalf and not to have it thought to be a defect, for Jesus Christ did the same, and therefore I cannot be blamed. Christ had his son John, and I have my George."
More recently, controversial theologian Robert Goss called the relationship between Jesus and John "pederastic", meaning that it was an erotic relationship between an older and younger man.
In an article that refutes this contentious claim, The Washington Post in 2010: "I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems." Bob Siegel, the author of the article, argues that John, Bryan and others of the same view are mistaken in their interpretation of Biblical scriptures.
He goes on to point out that Jesus called upon Israelites to honour and obey the Jewish Holy Scriptures, which included the commandment: "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable." (Lev 18:22). Siegel argues that rather than being silent on the issue of sexuality, they are in fact specific in their guidance on the issue. And if the Old Testament is considered too archaic to apply to our modern day principles, he points out that in the New Testament, Paul preached forgiveness of sin – which includes homosexuality – in Romans 1:26-27.
Those arguing for Jesus as advocating same-sex marriage would need to counter Siegel's biblical evidence that homosexuality is rejected biblically by questioning how and by whom the Bible was compiled in the first place. Several versions, interpreted by many different scholars with myriad agendas of their own, may mean that certainty of Jesus' sexual orientation, and biblical direction with regard to sexuality in general is literally lost in translation.

The pursuit of Christ demands our full devotion and the willingness to hold nothing back. We must make our pursuit with full conviction and commitment. Our cross is not represented by a bad day or regular difficulties, like a bad back, unable to get a parking space, or some other daily struggles. Our cross is represented by the struggle that will come out of our pursuit of Christ. Following Christ may lead to persecution, ridicule, loss of position, and the lose of our personal agenda and pursuits. We must take up our cross, the life we live for Christ and daily pursue Him.
Instead of pursuing the cause and purpose of Christ, we often pursue our own agendas and efforts to get ahead in life. Jesus has said, what good is it when you gain all the world has to offer, bit at the same time loose all that the cause of Christ has to offer. Following after Christ will bring a life full of adventure, fulfillment, and the peace of knowing you are fulfilling your God given purpose. May we pursue all God has for us, even at the risk of loosing all the world has to offer. Giving up the life this world has to offer in pursuit of the life Christ has to offer will result in a fulfillment beyond our comprehension.
