In 1931, the Bemidji Civic and Commerce Association bought 160 wooded acres northwest of Bemidji and gave the property to the city in 1932. The cost to the Civic and Commerce Association, including tree clearing and payment of back taxes, was $1,625. By 1941, 150 acres were cleared and a hangar had been built.
