Whistler vet clinic now offers acupuncture

The most common use for veterinary acupuncture is for the treatment of muscular or neurologic issues. Animal patients that are limping, weak or uncoordinated are great candidates, but it can be used to treat a variety of internal medical conditions as well, including digestive issues (vomiting, diarrhea, diminished appetite), seizures, urine leakage and many others.

Acupuncture works especially well when combined with chiropractic therapy, which Dr. Lane has been practicing for years, as well with the ongoing sports medicine and rehabilitative training he has been receiving. In addition to Coast Mountain Veterinary Services, there are four other veterinary facilities that employ Dr. Lane as their primary orthopaedic surgeon, and to provide second opinion consults on difficult lameness cases.

With Whistler’s athletic dog community, sports injuries are common. Acupuncture is an effective tool for getting dogs back on their feet, and back onto the trails where they belong. For more information, you can visit the Coast Mountain Veterinary office at #203-2011 Innsbruck Drive (above Food Plus in Creekside), call 604-932-5391 or visit www.whistlervet.com .

“The idea is to create a uniquely Whistler experience at the café. The opportunity to sit outside on the patio at Lost Lake PassivHaus, sip on a Pemberton Valley Coffee Co. organic coffee and enjoy both the natural surrounding and great people-watching is distinctive. It’s a great place for a pre- or post-ride get together and a wonderful experience for tourists,” Denroche said.

The Connection Cafe officially opened on June 11 and is operating daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the summer season. The affordably priced menu items include on-site baked cookies and croissants, smoothies, banana bread, paninis, gelato, brewed and espresso coffee, teas and cold beverages. For more information, visit www.crosscountryconnection.ca .

“For a brand new deck, or wood that needs to be re-finished, it just has to be dry enough to be sanded. Two or three days of clear weather and you could be sanding and staining. After coating, just make sure the project is protected so rain doesn’t hit the surface until it’s dry. Then when the hot weather really hits, you’re at the beach, in the lake or golfing instead of working.”

Water-based Polyurethane Over Oil-based? | MisterFix-It.com

Question:

Is it OK to use a water-based polyurethane such as Minwax Polycrylic over an interior door surface that had previously been finished with oil-based? Minwax says it’s OK, but the lady at the home improvement store said no. Could you please break the tie?

-Mary

Answer:

In most cases, it is OK to use a water-based polyurethane over an oil-based finish in good condition. You should remove grease, dirt and wax by scrubbing the surface with a wood prep/cleaner/de-glosser, or mineral spirits and synthetic steel wool. Then “roughen” the surface finish lightly with medium or fine-grit sandpaper in the direction of the grain. You want to remove the gloss from the finish. Remove all the dust with a vacuum or tack rag.

Apply the new water-based finish per label directions. The application is typically done with a lint-free cloth and several coats are recommended. The advantage of the water-based finish is ease of use, quick drying, no odor, and easy cleanup.

One word of caution – read the label carefully and follow the specific instructions. Some of these water-based finishes are not for use over lacquer or shellac. Spray lacquer is commonly used on new furniture and in new construction. A great finish to try is ZAR brand ULTRA Max – a waterborne oil modified polyurethane.
