Database: Changes In Our Electronics Amazing

In comparison, about 140,000 attended this year's show -- the best attendance figures since it peaked at 141,000 in 2008.

This year, tablet computers and 3D televisions dominated the new product launches. Tablets "are proving themselves to be lifestyle devices at home and at work, and as such we think consumers will upgrade to newer models more rapidly than they would a more utilitarian device like a PC," Sarah Rotman Epps, an analyst at Forrester Research, told a reporter.

What was cutting edge years ago?

Ten years ago at CES, plasma televisions were the big item, along with a new console gaming system for the home: Microsofts XBox. The Blu-Ray DVD player was introduced at the 2003 show.

The videocassette recorder (VCR) was launched at the 1970 show. It was followed four years later by the laserdisc player.

It's been 30 years since the compact disc (CD) player was first shown at CES.

The digital versatile disc (DVD) was the big new item at the 1996 show. Ten years later, a total of 19,788,279 DVD players were sold in the United States in 2006 -- and about that many were sold in the United States last year.

It's pretty easy to spot the "can't fail" products that get introduced at CES -- a decade later, anyway. The 2012 CES will have about 2,700 exhibitors showing new and improved products.

There's bound to be a market-changer in there somewhere.

If you are a small business owner in  Las Vegas , then you probably understand the importance of your computer network!  What you may not understand is what all of these “techie terms” are referring to.  We’ll try and break it down for in English you since there are plenty of people wanting to give you the techie explanation of things.

Network IP Address: An IP address is the specific location on the network where a specific device (like a computer, a printer, a scanner, etc…)  is at.  If you have a device with an IP address and the device driver does not match the IP on the device itself, your device won’t really work.  It is essentially like sending mail to the wrong address and then scratching your head to wonder why you never got the thank you card.

Tape vs D2D Backup:  This would be similar to a cassette tape vs mp3′s.  Can tapes do music?  Of Course. Are they as efficient?  Not at all!  It works the same way with  data back up in Las Vegas .

Managed Services:  This is slang for having your IT department outsourced.

Exchange Server:  This is the most common product for mail, calendar sharing, etc.  If you have a server onsite for E mail, you are likely using an Exchange Server.
