A library for the community

The Seattle Public Library - South Park Branch was truly built for its community. The modest, largely Latino neighborhood of South Park is rich with culture, livelihood and diversity. For nearly 100 years, the citizens of South Park rallied to bring a library to their community. It is through their dedication, persistence and perseverance that the library was built.

 The community's vibrant spirit served as the inspiration for the design. The exterior courtyard or "plaza" welcomes the public and serves as an open gathering space. The fluid floor plan, abundant natural light and lucid study rooms bring the outdoor courtyard within. Cedar is used throughout the library to pay homage to the Northwest. While the solid blocks clad in red stucco are a reference to the area's Latin American flavour. Projected images illuminate the western exterior wall with art work by Seattle artist Franklin Joyce. As the exterior courtyard incorporates a paving pattern representing the original course of the Duwamish River which winds along the eastern edge of the community.

The primary challenge presented by this 5,000 square-foot library was to express the community's ethnic heritage, within the bounds of the very specialized needs of a library. The South Park Branch altered the standard library program for its size by opting for generous ESL spaces and an oversized children's area in place of a large meeting room. The community strongly urged the design team to give that space back to the library, specifically a larger area for its youngest users. The result is a highly visible children's area on the most prominent corner of the building that is energetic and inviting during the library's hours of operation.

The Seattle Public Library - South Park Branch is more than just a library; it is a space that both exudes and embraces the heart and soul of the South Park area, a vibrant place where people can find a sense of belonging and community.

Its not because I am defending Dawood. Its just that when people talk about Dawood, the response from Pakistan has been that India is giving the list of the usual suspects, and trying to score points. [They also deny that he is in Pakistan]. So, I say, forget the past. Just focus on Bombay; get to the bottom of it, use it as an opportunity to improve relations between India and Pakistan, and move forward. I know why you wanted to avoid this dawood Ibrahim. It clearly shows unwillingness for pakistan to take actions on these terrorists. Forget Dawood, what about azad (plane hijacker). You acknowledge he is in pakistan. If not him, can you find at least one guy from pakistan out of hundreds who have committed terrorist acts on India. Please don't hide behing 'past is past'. Do you see why we(not this forum members, but people of India) feel that pakistan government or ISI has some role in these incidents. Subject to INA �245(i) and 245(k), applicants for adjustment of status who have engaged in unauthorized employment on or after January 1, 1977 are barred from adjustment of status pursuant to INA �245(c)(2). Unauthorized employment is a bar to adjustment of status to persons who engaged in unauthorized employment even after their adjustment application was filed. This bar does not apply to employment-based petitions where person worked no more than 180 days without permission since his last entry into the U.S. [INA �245(k)]. Immediate relatives and special immigrants described in INA ��101(a)(27)(H), (I), (J), or (K) are also exempt from this bar. I have been in the United States for 10 years - LEGALLY. I came here for my Masters and I work as a Compliance Analyst in the Pharmaceutical Industry. I have bent over backwards to follow the letter of the law, irrespective of how convoluted it is. I pay taxes and contribute to the American economy and I hope that I can settle down in this great country. I want the Democrats to win...but guess what - the failed CIR 2007 woke me up to the fact that Sen. Durbin will never make it easy for EB immigrants. His hostility towards this community is making me explore opportunities outside of the United States after spending 10 years in this great land. I have little bit more time to decide what I want to do but if things don't take a turn for the better on the Immigration front, I have made up my mind to pursue opportunities outside of the United States.
