Moonlight Cinema heads north to Port Douglas for the Winter

Moonlight Cinema is escaping the winter chill and heading north from 1 July – 2 October 2011 for a warm mid-year season of new release, classic and cult films on the lush tropical lawns of the Rydges Sabaya Resort in Port Douglas.

Moonlight Cinema’s Event Director Simon Bogle said this is the first time Moonlight has left the city limits behind, branching out beyond its metropolitan heartlands of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

“We are looking forward to screening all the latest and greatest movies in Port Douglas during what is traditionally our off season in the southern capitals.”

The Sabaya Resort cinema lawn will hold a maximum of 300 people with on-site food and beverage facilities (no BYO) and is certain to be a must-visit attraction for both locals and visitors over the warm Far North Queensland winter months.

“Moonlight Cinema’s Port Douglas film program will be a mix of new release, 3D, classic and cult films, with an emphasis on new and recent release titles and family films during school holidays,” said Simon.

The CEO of Tourism Port Douglas & Daintree, Doug Ryan says Moonlight Cinema is a boon to Port Douglas and its overall visitor experience.

“While our list of day time activities is expansive, the evenings are often limited to dining out. What Moonlight Cinema offers is another great option for families who can enjoy the magic of outdoor cinema under a tropical, starlit sky,” he said.

The inaugural season runs from 1 July to 2 October 2011 with screenings four nights a week, Thursday to Sunday. Gates open at 6.30pm with screenings around 7.30pm.

Port Douglas’ Moonlight Cinema is located at Rydges Sabaya Resort, 87-109 Port Douglas Road Port Douglas. Set amongst lush tropical gardens, the resort is a tranquil oasis that creates the perfect backdrop for outdoor cinema, in line with the Moonlight Cinema experience hundreds of thousands of people have grown to love in our most beautiful capital city parks and gardens.

Tickets are priced from $12 for children and $16 for adults. There is a wide range of ticket options available and food, beverage and movie packages will also be promoted. Tickets are available online at moonlight.com.au and at the gate.
