With the new Measure M money, about $35 million in funding has been designated toward the $90 million needed to build the road. The county and the city are seeking state and federal grants, including San Clemente's request for federal funds because La Pata could provide a second way out of town in case of an accident at the San Onofre nuclear plant or another disaster tying up I-5.
